News > Palmer, Cube Play Football

Written by David Morgan

Fourteen year-old actress Keke Palmer will play the protagonist in an "untitled inspirational sports drama for Dimension Films." Her character, Jasmine Palmer, was the first female quarterback in Pop Warner history. In the film, Palmer and her teammates "draw support from her uncle (Ice Cube) and members of their Illinois town when the team plays in the Pop Warner Super Bowl."

The Hollywood Reporter also revealed the rest of the cast which includes Tasha Smith, Jill Marie Jones, Dash Mihok, Matt Craven, original SNL castmember Garrett Morris, and comedians Earthquake and Michael Colyar.

The film has previously been called Comeback, a title which has likely been changed to remove any associations to the football spoof movie The Comebacks. Doug Atchison (Akeelah and the Bee) wrote the latest draft of the screenplay originally by Nick Santora. And who has the honor of directing this fine family film None other than former Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst. Some critics have raised questions as to whether or not the director of a film full of teenagers should be doing it all "for the nookie."

Santora is producing the film with Ice Cube and Matt Alvarez through their production company Cube Vision.
